Art Lang's Galaxy Hotel & Casino

364 Convention Center Dr 1969-1990-1996

Destroyed by Martians in 1996 Art Lang’s Galaxy will live on through the creative genius of Tim Burton. Actually named The Landmark, this towering casino was imploded, and the footage later used by Burton for his film Mars Attacks!

From the moment we talked about this piece, I knew exactly how I wanted to make the frame. I wasn’t sure of the wood species, but I knew it needed laser beams. Once David delivered it to me, I began my search. I wanted something light and with a lot of specialality so when I shot laser through it, someone might be a little upset at its destruction. Somehow, this Curly Birdseye Maple crossed my path. Honestly, its some of the most beautiful wood I’ve seen. Its quite rare as its either Curly or birdseye, not both. Great care was taken when choosing where to put these laser beams. I also wanted the spline to look laser-y so I broke up the Padauk with some Maple.

The birdeyes are so cool and almost look like little saucers in the distant desert…
